LJ Marx is in his first year as assistant coach with the Marquette University women's volleyball program in 2023.
Marx spent 15 seasons as the head men’s volleyball coach at Carthage College and complied a 318-131 record that resulted in 13 regular season championships and and six conference tournament titles. Carthage qualified for the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship five times during his tenure in Kenosha and he earned as many conference coach of the year honors.
Marx mentored a pair of AVCA Men's Division III Players of the Year, three AVCA Newcomers of the Year, as well as 39 All-American selections. He left Carthage tied for 12th place in career wins (318) among active coaches across all divisions. Carthage's .708 (318-131) winning percentage at the time of his departure in 2019 ranked second all-time among Division III programs.
Since stepping down at his alma mater following the 2019 campaign, Marx worked as program director at Milwaukee Sting Volleyball Club and in various roles at Northwestern Mutual.
He began his coaching career with the women’s volleyball program (2000-05) at Carthage as an undergraduate student and continued until taking the reigns of the men’s program during its first season in 2005. Marx also served as an assistant professor of exercise and sport science at Carthage from 2005-18.
